Folks,
Another Circle Stuff San Soo Gathering has come and gone. This was our 4th gathering and it was a great event. Kung-Fu San Soo friends gathering right near where the old Kung-Fu San Soo El Monte studio was located. This studio was the original location of Jimmy Woo's studio and then Jack took over Jimmy's studio when Jimmy retired.
Jack talked about Jimmy and the old studio. Michael and Shellee also talked about their time training with Jimmy and Jack. And Frank Duran made comments about training with Jimmy and Jack.
It was a great event. Most folks who RSVP'ed showed up.

I studied under Tony Feliz when he had a studio in East L.A. I remember Jack Sera and Gerald Okimura used to come out on thursdays for demonstrations. Though i live where there is no study my heart and thoughts are always on what i was taught. The last time i visited a study i could feel the rush that i would get when i worked out. And i always felt the confidence within me. Hopefully i will get a chance to visit your study.
Former student,
David

Hey Dave,
Congrats go out to you Mr. Skinner for receiving your Black Belt from Master Jack Sera.
Now you see why I wanted you to go and study from Jack.
This is what happens when you study at a studio where the studio owner/instructor actually teaches his students instead of simply treating you like some kind of cash cow.
5 years as a yellow belt at your previous studio, what kind of instructor keeps his student at one belt level for that long? I'd say not a very good one IMO!

In 1968 I studied with Master Frank Woolsey in Downey, CA. Years later with William (Bill) Husley in Bellflower CA. Frank seems to have disappeared. He left a great mnay disappointed students. I understand that about five Kung Fu San Soo books were spirited out of china. Some were left behind? One of the great martial arts. I also enjoyed three years of Akido, spelled different ways. Also a wonderful art.

More misinformed comments by the folks in the San Soo Community
Latest comments from the new San Soo Advanced Fighting Concepts
Yahoo Forum, Join today!
Now I understand why Jack chooses to simply teach those who come directly to him for instruction.
Apparently there is a campaign (not organized) to trash Master Jack Sera based on a statement that was seen on a youtube clip that he never authorized to be posted.
But the clip was and now all these misinformed people are saying that Jack does not teach pivoting. That is the most ridiculous claim I have ever heard.
Of course he teaches pivoting. He just does not teach the kung fu shuffle on you heels or balls of your feet ALL AT THE SAME TIME method.
He teaches you to BEND your knees and drive with your legs from a one horse through to the next horse all the time having your feet grounded (planted) on the ground. Doing it this way allows you to use the FULL FORCE of your legs and as you drive your feet will rotate as your weight transitions from leg to leg. More on the leaning comments later!
Again, he teaches pivoting but not the kung fu shuffle pivot that seems to be performed by many in our community.
So now out of fear, ignorance, pride or plain stubbornness folks are going online to make ridiculous statements that Jack does not pivot. Or that Jack's methods will blow out your knees. Come on! Do not believe this garbage being spread by the misinformed!
Also, do not take my word for it; go directly to Master Jack Sera. His website is at www.sansookungfu.com and he holds classes every Tuesday and Thursday nights.
I would also like to thank all those making these online bizarre and preposterous comments. We are getting loads of internet traffic to our websites. And new and old students are coming in to our classes.
Thank you all for that!
Dale

I might also add that by trashing Jack Sera's teachings in such an unprofessional manner these people are also trashing the art and more importantly they are bashing the decision that Jimmy Woo made by selecting Master Jack Sera to take his place at the El Monte studio in the hopes that the San Soo community would rally around his new predecessor.
Sadly, it appears that these people are very pleased with fragmenting the Art.

It has been brought to my attention that some video clips on Youtube of Master Jack Sera's 1995 San Soo seminar are being attacked based on there content.
These people attacking Jack and his students are known for doing this repeatedly throughout the years. They look to gain respect in our community by tearing down the good names of the best that the San Soo Community has to offer.
It is just another case of the top guys being attacked by lesser people looking to claim that same position.
One such person who has nothing to show for his years of studying San Soo runs around hawking videos of Jimmy Woo doing these Jimmy Woo from the grave seminars. He claims it is his life's work to preserve San Soo but all he seems to do is cause problems and to drive people away from himself and the San Soo Community.
Another person who is a Woo family member and claims to be the leader of our Community has consistently bad mouthed Jack behind his back even though Jack is the person that taught him after his grandfather died. In fact, Jack promoted this person to master level and as a request from Jimmy Jack kept and present this Woo family member with a signed diploma from Jimmy Woo. Jack did this out of respect for Jimmy even though Jack was the one who trained this Woo family member and presented him with his masters diploma.
And finally to the person who called Master Jack Sera's students assholes, I was very surprised to see and hear that coming from someone I thought was a successful San Soo Community member. You have just called all these people assholes: Arbi Lazar, Arvin Sahakian, Cesar Mercado, Cesar Perez, Dale Garrison, Dave Skinner, Henry Sanchez, John Lee, Julian Clement, Lou, Mike Rockwell, Shellee Rockwell, Robert Hayrapetian, Sean Haley, Travis Sera, Vincent Radcliffe and many more. All I can say to this is "wow" did your really mean to call all these people assholes?
It is sad to witness but like all communities there are always people like this who can not accomplish anything on their own and are only capable of tearing down those who are capable of doing great things on the own.

I moved to El Monte in March Of 1965. I was 17. Our house was right out of the back gate to the Midway Shopping Center on Ranchito St. I started With Jimmy Woo in 1965, but jobs and my band came first. Then I enlisted in the Army in 1967. I stated back at the studio in 1972 and stayed until I got my black belt in February 1976. I moved to Tennessee in March of 1976. I had been back home a few times. One time I ran into Jimmy's grandson. We talked and I watched class. Still the same, still wonderful. I was saddened to learn of Mr. Woo's passing. He taught me and the class not just fighting but he also imparted wisdom, and a bit about life's lessons. My life has been blessed to have known him. I am now 61, but I can remember my first day with Mr. Woo, it was a small studio then but the man was big with a big heart, very kind, very sincere. Is there an association that I can be part of?
Thanks for listening.
Dave Montoya.

Hi Jack,
Wow it's been a long time and a great journey. I miss our talks before class in El Monte and your great instruction. I rarely have a chance to see any of the old gang from the studio, but when I do we always have a great time. Great to see you passing on all you know 2 Tim 2:2.
